What is Liftoff?
Liftoff is a career readiness course designed to help guide people with the requisite programming skills (proficiency with an Object Oriented Programming language and a modern framework) through building a personal project.
How much of a time commitment is Liftoff?
Liftoff courses meet once a week for three hours for 8 weeks. Those enrolled are expected to be working on a project and other modules for an additional 10-15 hours a week outside of class.
How are applicants selected for the course?
Liftoff cohorts typically follow the completion of an LC101 cohort. Graduates of that course then opt-into Liftoff. Graduates of LaunchCode Education Programs have priority admittance into Liftoff with some remaining seats available to interested people with the requisite skills.
Do I need to own a laptop to participate in the class? If so, what are the specifications?
Students will need access to a laptop to participate in the course. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide students with laptops at this time. Chromebooks and tablets will not be sufficient for use in this course. If you own a PC, you must have Windows 8 OS or more recent, though Windows 10 is strongly preferable. If you own a Mac, the most recent Mac OS is strongly preferred. Laptops used for virtual courses also need to meet Zoom’s system requirements. You may check Zoom’s system requirements here. Pay particular attention to the System Requirements and Supported Operating Systems sections. If enrolled, please apply all system upgrades before coming to class.
There are no other requirements to participate.
What are my next steps after completing Liftoff?
Students who successfully complete Liftoff are automatically transitioned into our Apprenticeship Program. To learn more about LaunchCode's Apprenticeship Program, please visit launchcode.org/apply.
I will have to miss several classes throughout the course. Is that ok?
Unfortunately, because Liftoff is only an 8 week course, missing even a single class is a significant loss. Missing two or more classes will result in being dropped from the course.
