How does it work?

Our founder, Jim McKelvey, co-founder of Square, says LaunchCode works like speed dating: We extensively review employers and employees and match them based on talent need, expertise, and culture fit. When you've found the right apprentice, it's best to pair them with a strong mentor to help them learn the specific ins and outs of your team's structure, workflow, and needs. This gives you time to assess their aptitude and fit before hiring them on as a full-fledged employee. Businesses have hired more than four out of five apprentices full-time.

How are you different from recruiters?

We are a nonprofit aiming to solve the tech talent gap in America. And in order to do that, we need top businesses on board as hiring partners. We are not interested in shuffling people around and we do not actively recruit anyone away from their job. We have a careful evaluation process to make sure you are speaking only with people who are a good fit and will be a dedicated member of your team. Also, we are cheaper. A typical IT recruiter charges 33% of first year salary (~$17k).
