Meet A Student
Tell us a little bit about your background.
Despite having worked in the web for almost 20 years, as a designer, interactive art director and UX designer, I remained largely ignorant of what was happening “under the hood”. This class has really helped me understand the bigger, or more accurately, the smaller, picture — All the micro-events happening in a computer down to the bits. My interests all revolve around technology, music, and the arts.
What motivated you to sign up for CS50x?
I have had a secret interest in programming for several years. I attempted a few MOOCs (Coursera, iTunes, Khan Academy) as well as various tutorial sites (lynda.com, tutsplus, etc.) but my interest and commitment tended to wane after a few weeks. When I heard that LaunchCode was offering a physical class with real people and lectures, it seemed like the missing ingredient.
The in-class presentations have been a great chance to get insights into the field from developers employed by local tech and media companies.
What has been the highlight of class so far?
The occasional Eureka moment when a concept finally clicks in! Sitting and working with the TAs and volunteer professionals has been invaluable as well. The in-class presentations have been a great chance to get insights into the field from developers employed by local tech and media companies.
It’s possible to learn completely new and foreign skills given the time and encouragement.
What have you learned about yourself by taking CS50x?
It’s possible to learn completely new and foreign skills given the time and encouragement. Even when you’re pushing 40.
What are your post CS50x goals?
To continue on the web development path and try to get an apprenticeship. I feel like I have a long way to go but LaunchCode has given me a great foundation.
What would be your advice to someone interested in signing up for LaunchCode’s next class cohort?
